Call upon Weekly Journal Club

As some have suggested, I would like to take the initiative to call on
weekly Journal Club. We can have it twice a week if many people involved or
twice a month if just a few.
Here is a outline proposal/ideas I like to throw out for your folks to build
/discuss on
1. The goal of the Journal club is
A: to broad our horizons and help on scientific thinkings.
B: Encourage personal friendship and professional networking, and
possible future collaborations.
2. A ratating commmittee(5-9 members each term) will be established to
monitor/help the proceedings of the Journal club and performance of all
involved. For now, I could think that there are many who could be involved
including: decay, Neuron, Puppeteer, Lacandefee, Repair, Greendragon, Ras,
Morphin, FangZhouZi, HENBEN, oncogene, pigskin, Anoia, Noah, windysea,
sunnyday, royluo, cnyy, atwood,zesta, space, etc etc....(I apologize to
those not listed here). This committee has the final saying on any matters
in the Journal club.
3. Every participant is required to take the lead on at least one Journal
Club per cycle/term.
Responsibilities:
A: Provide/upload the journal club paper and background/relevant papers(
if desired) by the Sunday of the previously week. Everyone ID is encouraged
to log in by the coming Monday Night so that assignment/arrangment could be
made.
B: Discussion/introduction on:
a)(Required): the background, key/special methodolody and experimental
design/scientific logistics, figures/results (required); shall be posted
before the Wed.
Note: if everyone agrees, we could have figures assigned to individuals
so that it is easier for the one who take the lead. But the leader shall
still collect the figure discussion on time and put them together in a
single poster. But this might be a bit harder to do.
b)(Optional but highly encouraged): significance and potential/
critical impacts/implications, pitfalls and key problems,and what's next?
4. It is encouraged to have core groups within the Journal club and
collectively to present a series on certain topic. As well, it is encouraged
to identify significant research areas and suggest topics/papers, in
particular before/during the early of the terms. If desired, we can identify
a series of center topics ahead of each term/cycle and then assign leaders(
1-3) person on each topic who are responsible to coordinate the
presentations from the topic group. For less experienced, it is encouraged
to consult on the board/leaders earlier before one decides to present a
certain paper. Nevertheless, the presentor shall still have the right to
choose the papers.
5. It is encouraged to speak on every single Journal club and required to
speak on at least 2-3 out of every four. Those who don't meet such
requirement will have to lead on an extra journal.
6. All discussions shall be scientific and professional and no personal
attack is tolerated for any reasons. A first two violations will be warned
by "ZhiDing" or not ruled by the committee. A third violations will be
resulted expelled from the group and possibly banned from the board (we can
discuss this and seek help from the board).
7.It is desirable that every participant provides an introduction of
yourself: career level, research interest and/or background, academic/
industrial oriented.
8.If ever desirable/feasible, local/national friendly meetings can take
place periodly to encourage friendship and professional networking. If ever
that happens, then we will have real chance to punish those who are least
active in the journal club by requesting them to bring beers or wash dishes:
))).
9. It is encouraged to bring more friends into the circles/board/journal
Club.
